Traditional timber sash windows are an essential feature of a period buildings character and provide an authentic look to your property.

The sash window dates back to over 300 years and is often found in Georgian and Victorian houses. We feel that it is important to retain the original windows whenever possible and to not replace them unnecessarily.

Modern uPVC style windows can look out of place on an old building. Most defects on a timber window can be remedied at the source, rather than requiring wholesale replacement of the window. With regular maintenance a timber window can be repaired piecemeal and over time can result in a life expectancy of well over 100 years.

We have indeed repaired box sash windows that were previously well maintained and were over 100 years old. Generally, modern uPVC windows will require complete replacement after only 25-30 years.

If you consider this alongside their poor environmental impact, it seems the renovation of a historic timber sash is by far the most environmentally friendly, cost-effective approach to window repair.
